Stardew Valley

I honestly thought I had a topic about this awesome game but nope.

I have the game on the PS5 but I think it's probably more enjoyable on a Switch so you can farm everywhere anytime.

I also have the game on PC because it was super cheap so I get to see the 1.5 update. Sadly, this update doesn't hit consoles until sometime next year.

@Zadien @Shizophrenia @Laggy @Caffeinearted  @Nirianne

Anyways. There's a really good reason to pick up this game again - huge new update has come out!

Yeah I'm waiting for the update on Switch. I have it on the computer but I don't really get to play it much. And it's more fun having the portable option. I can sit down with my family and play it or sit anywhere and play it. It's such a chill game but I need to do more research on it because I'm four years in and literally seem to be doing much of the same stuff as I was doing when I started.

Agreed. I got a Switch version too since it was on sale for awhile and it feels so much better than PS and PC.

I'm close to Year 5. I've reached the bottom of the mines, and I'm working towards upgrading my house to the second tier version (no idea where to get hardwood though).

I think the main part is to unlock all the extra stuff - complete the museum (think there's 60 items) to unlock the sewers. Also, you can unlock the quarry area for a another mining area (hard difficulty it seems from what I've seen so far - not sure how many levels yet). And unlock all the community centre//JoJa stuff (I've gone with JoJa so I need lots of money. like the greenhouse, mining carts and the desert area.

Other than that, I think it's just making lots of money and unlocking every upgrade and building.

I keep running out of bloody hay : (

You can collect Hardwood in the little alcove off the area where Marnie is. So if you go south of your farm and follow along the track towards where the carvan sits, go past it and there should be a path, blocked by a log, leading into an area with hardwood stumps, green slime and a statue and pond. You need a steel axe or a more advanced axe.

I've done all the centre stuff, the cinema, the sewer area, the mine by the quarry, the mine itself, the witch house, Pam's house, house is completed and I'm currently trying to get down through the desert mine but it's kicking my ass since I just don't have enough time to get down far enough. Even the rabbit foot doesn't help. I still need to finish the museum but I shouldn't be far off.

You can buy hay from Marnie. I run out of hay a lot too so I just buy a ton from her.

I need to marry someone I guess. None of them really appeal.

Oh dang, you've done a lot in 4 years. I've spent most of my time farming, and giving gifts to people to make them like me.

How many levels are the desert mine?

I think I chose the wrong map sadly (on PS5). My farm is literally mostly trees. I'll try the Marnie area.

My character has married Alex on PS5. I think I'll try out Sam on the Switch.

There's a chance to harvest hard wood when you choose a certain path with forrester I think? But yeah I just focused on the people I wanted to like me, so most are sort of where I want them. Again, marriage is on the back burner because I legit don't understand the point of them.

Levels in the desert mine? Infinite I think. There's no bottom. You just have to get a fair bit down to finish off a challenge. I'll get to that in the next winter (nearly half way through autumn on year four). Working on the trash bear right now.

I have the river farm so it's not ideal. Definitely not the best option - though good for leveling up fishing but I think I've leveled up everything now. And with the green house, farming is way easier. Half the time I don't really do outside farming.

Aside from trophies (PS anyway), sometimes they water crops, tend to the animals and sometimes cook breakfast which helps if you're poor like me and can't afford the fancy stuff : (

Oh that sounds solid then regarding desert mine. I assume there's extra stuff to collect down there?

The big thing in that mine is iridium, which lets you build better sprinklers, better tools etc. The other thing about the mines is that they're tougher. if you can get a prismatic shard on your first trip down there, you can get a much better sword too.

For the most part, my farm is automated. But if I can get a husband to tend to the crops, that would leave me with more time to go mining for things.

Oh I see. I'm still in that mid game and have no need for iridium just yet.

The husband also takes care of your animals and sometimes cooks you breakfast too.

In other news, looks like console will get the update late this month or early next month.

Yeah there were some glitches on the PC they needed to work out first, but I cannot wait for the console version! Looking forward to starting a new far that doesn't include so much water. Though I'll miss having my greenhouse. It makes life a lot easier.

Wow, I mean Stardew Valley was inspired by Harvest Moon, and I'm not fond of Stardew but at least it makes an effort to look and play different.

Even the UI looks similar going by the text box, definitely could have mapped a new map.

Yeah, it's a bit full on!

Oh, @Zadien and @Shizophrenia

Have you heard of Stardew Valley Enhanced? It's a huge free mod that adds much more to the base game (you'd have to start a new file though)

Sadly, it's only on PC because mods and all.... But I'm thinking of giving it a try at some point when I get the achievements done on PS5.

Just how on earth are you supposed to win the arcade mini games?

The Journey of the Prairie King just seems impossible.

@Shizophrenia @Zadien

Eheh, I feel you. Honestly, didn't do this achievement, cuz when I had finally read a playthrough of the Prairie King I was like "Just how many levels??? No way I want to do this" (:

Though I do believe it's possible anyway

I always struggled to get into Stardew Valley but I tried again last night after watching Call Me Kevin play it again and I've managed to actually keep an interest in it for a few hours, hopefully this is a good sign.

I was driven completely by pure spite, trying to get the backpack as quick as possible by selling fish. I'm usually pretty decent at fishing in Rune Factory and Harvest Moon so when I instantly started struggling... It pissed me off enough that I did basically nothing but talk to people and fish until I got decent enough to have the money.

Now I got a backpack and chest, my goal is to make my farm less ugly by chopping wood and killing grass. Then I can start upgrading and buying important stuff

It's a highly addictive game with great backstories for the NPCs. Really realistic situations.

Fishing becomes easier after you get certain lures and poles and bait of course. I wouldn’t destroy all grass because if you plan to have animals, you’ll need grass for hay. Also doing things like deploring the mine, completing the community centre are all things that really kept my interest, because it usually wouldn’t be my type of game but I really enjoy it. Also the beach after it rains is always good for collecting things.

Yeah, I've been using the training pole to raise my skill. I perch out on the beach to fish, then run in to the shop and sell fish barring a few I keep for some town people. I'm focusing on befriending four villagers right now but it's slow because schedules are all online and one of them only seems to leave his room to smoke and play pool.

Foraging + fishing is my main income whilst crops grow, I've dabbled in the mine but lost track of time and got back barely in time to avoid that weird black out thing I got charged for despite having stamina.

You black out for three reasons:

- not getting back in time

- no health

- no stamina
